Exchange Lines and Services
Traditionally Analogue and ISDN lines were provided to customers to enable calls to be made. The technology has since moved on and the standard provision now is to provide VoIP to enable all types of call to be made. From September 2023 no new Analogue or ISDN lines can be installed apart from in very limited instances where there is no alternative.
An analogue service comes either as a single line or a group of lines, respectively allowing one incoming or outgoing call at a time, and multiple incoming and outgoing calls on one telephone number. A group of analogue lines can be used for regular desk phones or else attached to a telephone system offering a range of additional features.
ISDN services are digital and offer greater call clarity and also additional features such as allowing each person in the office to have their own direct-dial number.
Some providers are planning to phase out ISDN with BT having set their current withdrawal date for 2027, by which time customers will have to have migrated to another service. For more information please contact us
